 1                          HOUSE RESOLUTION

 2        WHEREAS, It has come to the  attention  of  the  Illinois
 3    House  of Representatives that Dorothy Hawn of rural Salem is
 4    the recipient of the 2002  Studs  Terkel  Humanities  Service
 5    Award  and will be presented the award at a future Salem City
 6    Council meeting; and

 7        WHEREAS, Dorothy Hawn was born and raised  in  the  Salem
 8    area;  she  is a member of the New Bethel Presbyterian Church
 9    and the Marion  County  Home  and  Community  Education;  her
10    family   includes   one  son,  Robert  (wife,  Linda),  three
11    grandchildren, and four great-grandchildren; and

12        WHEREAS, Dorothy Hawn  volunteers  as  a  tutor  for  the
13    Kaskaskia  College  Reading  Link  adult literacy program and
14    remains dedicated to the idea that the opportunity  to  learn
15    to read should be available to everyone; at the age of 81 she
16    is   still   an  active  member  of  the  community  and  now
17    contributes her time and talent in assisting in the  training
18    of other tutors; and

19        WHEREAS,  Dorothy Hawn's work earned her both the Reading
20    Link Volunteer of the Year Award and the Spotlight on Service
21    Award; in addition to her love for reading, she  also  enjoys
22    quilting and gardening; therefore, be it

23        RESOLVED,   BY   THE  HOUSE  OF  REPRESENTATIVES  OF  THE
24    NINETY-SECOND GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that
25    we congratulate Dorothy Hawn on being the  recipient  of  the
26    2002 Studs Terkel Humanities Service Award and on her efforts
27    to help others improve their quality of life through reading,
28    and  would  like  to  wish  her  well  on  all  of her future
29    endeavors; and be it further

30        RESOLVED, That a suitable  copy  of  this  resolution  be
31    presented to Dorothy Hawn as an expression of our esteem.
