1 HOUSE RESOLUTION
2 WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of
3 Representatives are honored to recognize notable
4 accomplishments in the lives of the citizens of the State of
5 Illinois; and
6 WHEREAS, It has come to our attention that Susan "Toby"
7 Olszewski is the recipient of the 2002 Athena Award, honoring
8 an outstanding area business woman; and
9 WHEREAS, Recognizing community contributions, as well as
10 business leadership, the Athena Award was presented at the
11 Women in Business Seminar sponsored by the Kankakee River
12 Valley Chamber of Commerce, held at Olivet Nazarene
13 University on May 22, 2002; and
14 WHEREAS, Susan Olszewski is the publisher and editor of
15 the Herald-Country Market, as well as the Beverly Review in
16 suburban Chicago; in accepting the Athena Award, she thanked
17 her husband Robert, to whom she has been married for 39
18 years; the Olszewski's are the proud parents of six children
19 and the grandparents of 11 grandchildren; and
20 WHEREAS, A participant in the Kankakee High School
21 Mentoring Program, Susan Olszewski is a sponsor of
22 Adopt-a-Room, Pledge for Life, and DARE in both Manteno and
23 Bradley; and
24 WHEREAS, Cited for "excellence, creativity and initiative
25 in her business, her profession, and the Kankakee community,"
26 Susan Olszewski also received the Rotary District Outstanding
27 Achievement, Illinois Women of Achievement, named the Bradley
28 Bourbonnais Business Person of the Year, and received the
29 Zonta Leadership Award; and
30 WHEREAS, The Athena Award was created in 1982 by the
31 Lansing Regional Chamber of Commerce in Michigan; it

1 recognizes and honors individuals who attain and personify
2 the highest level of professional excellence and celebrates
3 the potential of women as valued members and leaders of their
4 communities; the prize has been given to 3,000 women in 400
5 cities throughout the United States, Canada, and Russia;
6 therefore, be it
7 RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE
8 NINETY-SECOND GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that
9 we congratulate Susan Olszewski on being the recipient of the
10 2002 Athena Award sponsored by the Kankakee River Valley
11 Chamber of Commerce; and be it further
12 RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
13 presented to Susan Olszewski as an expression of our esteem.
