1 HOUSE RESOLUTION
2 WHEREAS, A group of six German Sisters were invited to
3 come to Peoria in 1876 to provide nursing care to the sick
4 and injured; and
5 WHEREAS, The Sisters' dedication to their Mission and to
6 central Illinois led them to establish their own order on
7 July 16, 1877, henceforth calling themselves the Sisters of
8 the Third Order of St. Francis; and
9 WHEREAS, The Sisters' first hospital, today's OSF Saint
10 Francis Medical Center, was also established in 1877; and
11 WHEREAS, The Mission of the Sisters to serve with the
12 greatest care and love led to a commitment to the poor that
13 has never wavered; and
14 WHEREAS, The first hospital established by the Sisters,
15 OSF Saint Francis Medical Center in Peoria, has been in the
16 forefront of medical innovation, technology, and service for
17 125 years; therefore, be it
18 RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE
19 NINETY-SECOND GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that
20 we extend our congratulations to the Sisters of the Third
21 Order of St. Francis and to OSF Saint Francis Medical Center
22 on the celebration of 125 years of continuous service to the
23 people of central Illinois; and be it further
24 RESOLVED, That suitable copies of this resolution be
25 presented to the Sisters of the Third Order of Saint Francis
26 and to OSF Saint Francis Medical Center as an expression of
27 our esteem.
