 1                          HOUSE RESOLUTION

 2        WHEREAS,  The  members   of   the   Illinois   House   of
 3    Representatives  are  proud  to congratulate J. John Zurek of
 4    Chicago on his retirement  from  the  Cook  County  Sheriff's
 5    Office on May 31, 2002; and

 6        WHEREAS,  Mr. Zurek has had a thirty-one year career most
 7    of  which  has  been  with  the  Cook  County  Department  of
 8    Corrections, moving through the ranks to Chief of  Operations
 9    and attaining the rank of Captain; and

10        WHEREAS,  Mr.  Zurek received his Bachelor of Arts Degree
11    from the University of Illinois at Chicago and has  continued
12    his education through courses, seminars, and workshops at the
13    National  Institute  of  Corrections,  the U.S. Department of
14    Justice,  numerous  conferences,  and  conventions   in   the
15    corrections profession; and

16        WHEREAS,  Mr.  Zurek  began  his  career  in  1971  as  a
17    Correctional  Officer  and  worked  until  1974;  leaving the
18    profession from 1977 to 1982, he was a Clerk for the  Circuit
19    Court  of  Cook  County  from  1974 to 1975, and from 1975 to
20    1977, he became a Probation Officer for the  Adult  Probation
21    Department of Cook County; and

22        WHEREAS,  In 1982, Mr. Zurek was promoted to Sergeant and
23    was transferred to the Office of the Chief in  1983;  he  was
24    promoted to Lieutenant in 1987 and to Captain in 1989; and

25        WHEREAS,  Mr.  Zurek  has  received  numerous  awards and
26    recognitions, including a Certificate of Excellence Award and
27    numerous   Letters   of   Recommendation    and    Department
28    Commendations; and

29        WHEREAS,   Mr.   Zurek   is  a  member  of  the  American
30    Correctional Association (ACA), the American Jail Association
31    (AJA), the Illinois Jail Association (IJA), and the  Illinois

 1    Police Association (IPA); and

 2        WHEREAS,  The  citizens  of  Illinois and Cook County are
 3    grateful to  Mr.  Zurek  for  a  job  well  done  during  his
 4    thirty-one year career; therefore, be it

 5        RESOLVED,   BY   THE  HOUSE  OF  REPRESENTATIVES  OF  THE
 6    NINETY-SECOND GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that
 7    we congratulate J. John Zurek on his retirement from the Cook
 8    County Sheriff's Office and wish him  all  the  best  in  his
 9    future endeavors; and be it further

10        RESOLVED,  That  a  suitable  copy  of this resolution be
11    presented to J. John Zurek as an expression of our esteem.
