 1                          HOUSE RESOLUTION

 2        WHEREAS, It  has  come  to  our  attention  that  Abraham
 3    Lincoln Memorial Hospital in Lincoln is celebrating its 100th
 4    anniversary this year; and

 5        WHEREAS,  The  hospital  was  begun in 1902 as St. John's
 6    Evangelical Home and  Hospital  under  the  auspices  of  St.
 7    John's  Evangelical  Church  (now St. John's United Church of
 8    Christ)  and  was  later  known  as   Evangelical   Deaconess
 9    Hospital; the old hospital celebrated its 50th anniversary in
10    June  1952  but  the  facilities  had  become inadequate; the
11    Abraham  Lincoln  Memorial  Hospital  project  began  as   an
12    ecumenical movement and in May 1952 ground was broken for the
13    new  hospital  building;  the  new  hospital was dedicated on
14    April  2,  1954  and  has  been  added  to  three  times  and
15    extensively remodeled; and

16        WHEREAS, Abraham Lincoln Memorial Hospital is  a  66-bed,
17    not-for-profit,  community-based  general  hospital; it is an
18    affiliate of Memorial Health System of Springfield and serves
19    17 communities in Logan and eastern Mason County; and

20        WHEREAS, On May 5, 2002, a crowd of 75 gathered near  the
21    hospital's   Eighth  Street  entrance  for  the  rededication
22    ceremony; Emil Stahlhut, hospital administrator from 1953  to
23    1983,  recalled his years at the hospital and emphasized that
24    the spirit of the staff has  brought  the  hospital  to  it's
25    centennial; therefore, be it

26        RESOLVED,   BY   THE  HOUSE  OF  REPRESENTATIVES  OF  THE
27    NINETY-SECOND GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that
28    we congratulate Abraham Lincoln Memorial Hospital in  Lincoln
29    on  its  100th  anniversary  and  wish  it many more years of
30    successful service to the community; and be it further

31        RESOLVED, That a suitable  copy  of  this  resolution  be

 1    presented  to  Woody  Hester,  President  and  CEO of Abraham
 2    Lincoln Memorial Hospital.
