1 HOUSE RESOLUTION
2 WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of
3 Representatives offer our sincere congratulations to the
4 Fenton High School Band of Bensenville on its 75th
5 anniversary of music and its Diamond Jubilee Celebration; and
6 WHEREAS, Community High School District 100 was formed in
7 1925, and the new Bensenville Community High School was
8 completed in 1927 and served the community until 1955 when
9 Fenton High School was constructed and opened its doors; and
10 WHEREAS, The Fenton High School Band, formerly known as
11 the Bensenville Community High School Band, was originally
12 founded in 1926; and
13 WHEREAS, Since 1955, the band has toured every two years,
14 including completing numerous tours in Europe, including
15 Switzerland, Great Britain, Germany, and Austria; and
16 WHEREAS, Fenton's band was the first amateur group ever
17 invited to perform at the Montreux Jazz Festival in Montreux,
18 Switzerland, a world-renowned jazz festival; and
19 WHEREAS, The reputation of the band is further enhanced
20 by the award winning soloists and ensembles which have
21 repeatedly received award recognition in state and national
22 competitions; and
23 WHEREAS, The band's talent has been showcased in many
24 state contests, winning first place in the National Division
25 twice; and
26 WHEREAS, Fenton has received 27 first place awards for
27 its outstanding band in the Illinois State Division; and
28 WHEREAS, Throughout 75 years the band has been a focal
29 point for civic pride in our community; and

1 WHEREAS, The Director of Instrumental Music, Mr. Fred
2 Lewis, has built a strong program based on 44 years of
3 service to the high school; and
4 WHEREAS, The band and its members throughout the years
5 have been recognized for their quality of music and their
6 abilities as musicians; and
7 WHEREAS, We recognize the efforts of the musicians,
8 director, school, and community in its achievement and for
9 maintaining such a high level stature in the music world;
10 therefore, be it
11 RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE
12 NINETY-SECOND GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that
13 we do hereby offer our congratulations to the Fenton High
14 School Band; and be it further
15 RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
16 presented to the Director of Instrumental Music, Mr. Fred
17 Lewis, and also to the Fenton High School Band.
