1 HOUSE RESOLUTION
2 WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of
3 Representatives offer our sincere congratulations and
4 appreciation to the Ronald McDonald House Charities on their
5 anniversary of 25 years of service; and
6 WHEREAS, Ronald McDonald House Charities offers a
7 "home-away-from-home" for the families of seriously ill
8 children being treated at nearby hospitals; and
9 WHEREAS, Ronald McDonald House Charities first opened in
10 Philadelphia in 1974; and
11 WHEREAS, Today 216 Ronald McDonald Houses are open in
12 over 20 countries with more than 5,000 bedrooms available for
13 families every night; and
14 WHEREAS, Each chapter of the Ronald McDonald House is run
15 by a local nonprofit organization comprised of members of the
16 medical community, business and civic leaders, parents,
17 Ronald McDonald's owners and operators, and over 25,000
18 volunteers; and
19 WHEREAS, On April 28, 2002, The Ronald McDonald House
20 near Children's Memorial Hospital in Chicago will celebrate
21 its 25th anniversary; and
22 WHEREAS, This house was the second Ronald McDonald House
23 to open in the world; and
24 WHEREAS, Over 35,000 families of pediatric patients have
25 been accommodated in Illinois through Ronald McDonald House
26 Charities; and
27 WHEREAS, In Illinois, Ronald McDonald House Charities has
28 awarded nearly $60 million in grants; and
29 WHEREAS, Since 1974, having served over two million

1 families whose children are receiving medical attention for
2 serious health conditions, Ronald McDonald House has created
3 a place where families can receive emotional support from
4 other families in similar situations; and
5 WHEREAS, We recognize the efforts of the Ronald McDonald
6 House Charities who have rendered a service of tremendous
7 compassion for millions of children and their families not
8 only in Illinois but across the nation; therefore, be it
9 RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE
10 NINETY-SECOND GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that
11 we do hereby offer our congratulations and appreciation to
12 the Ronald McDonald House Charities; and be it further
13 RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
14 presented to the Illinois chapters of the Ronald McDonald
15 House Charities and the Ronald McDonald Houses in Illinois.
