 1                          HOUSE RESOLUTION

 2        WHEREAS,  The  members   of   the   Illinois   House   of
 3    Representatives    are   honored   to   recognize   milestone
 4    achievements in the lives of the citizens  of  the  State  of
 5    Illinois; and

 6        WHEREAS,  Robert  D. Stuart, Jr., served as Ambassador to
 7    Norway from 1984 through 1989 and served on the 1991 and 1993
 8    Defense Base Closure and Realignment Commissions; he was also
 9    a member of the Board  of  the  National  Commission  on  the
10    Public  Service (Volcker) Commission and was Vice Chairman of
11    the Illinois Commission on the Future of Public Service; and

12        WHEREAS, Ambassador Stuart  previously  served  with  the
13    Quaker Oats Company for 38 years, including 15 years as Chief
14    Executive  Officer;  he  served on the boards of directors of
15    the First National Bank of Chicago,  United  Airlines,  Inc.,
16    Deere  & Company, and Molson Companies, Ltd., Canada; he is a
17    graduate member of the Business Council; and

18        WHEREAS, Ambassador Stuart is currently Senior Partner of
19    Conway Farms, a real estate development company; he  is  also
20    Co-Chairman  of  the  Council  of  American  Ambassadors, and
21    immediate past-Chairman  of  the  Midwest  Regional  Advisory
22    Board   of  the  Institute  of  International  Education;  in
23    addition, he is a  director  of  the  Atlantic  Council,  the
24    Association  for  Diplomatic Studies and Training, the Center
25    for Media and Public Affairs, the Center  for  Strategic  and
26    International  Studies,  the  American  Institute  for Public
27    Services, and as a trustee emeritus of Princeton  University;
28    and

29        WHEREAS, Ambassador Stuart received his bachelor's degree
30    from  Princeton  University  in  1937;  after  service in the
31    United States Army in Europe during World War II, he attended
32    Yale Law School where he received his Juris Doctor  in  1946;

 1    he  was  married to the late Barbara Edwards for 55 years and
 2    has four children and eight grandchildren; in  October  1995,
 3    he married Lillan Lovenskiold of Oslo, Norway; and

 4        WHEREAS,  On  April  26, 2002, the supporters of the Lake
 5    County Republican Federation will honor Ambassador Robert  D.
 6    Stuart,  Jr.,  as its co-founder of the organization 40 years
 7    ago  at  the  40th  Anniversary  Spring  Dinner  and   Dance;
 8    therefore, be it

 9        RESOLVED,   BY   THE  HOUSE  OF  REPRESENTATIVES  OF  THE
10    NINETY-SECOND GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that
11    we  honor  Ambassador  Robert  D.  Stuart,   Jr.,   for   his
12    distinguished  career  and his dedication and contribution as
13    co-founder of the Lake County Republican Federation;  and  be
14    it further

15        RESOLVED,  That  a  suitable  copy  of this resolution be
16    presented  to  Ambassador  Robert  D.  Stuart,  Jr.,  as   an
17    expression of our esteem.
