1 HOUSE RESOLUTION
2 WHEREAS, The institution of marriage is one of the
3 cornerstones upon which our society is built, and a marriage
4 that has achieved a notable longevity is truly a model for
5 the people of the State of Illinois; and
6 WHEREAS, It has come to our attention that Edmund and
7 Jean Lawler of Midlothian, Illinois, will celebrate the
8 fiftieth anniversary of their marriage; and
9 WHEREAS, Mr. and Mrs. Lawler were united in holy
10 matrimony on April 26, 1952; and
11 WHEREAS, Originally from Chicago's Beverly neighborhood,
12 Edmund and Jean Lawler moved to Oak Forest in 1961 and to
13 Midlothian in 1970; and
14 WHEREAS, They are the loving parents of Edmund, Timothy,
15 Marianne, Eileen, Elizabeth, and the late Daniel; and the
16 grandparents of Griffin, Bryan, Meghan, Moira, Siobhan,
17 Catherine, Daniel, Leah, Margaret, Kevin, Quinn, and Alice;
18 and
19 WHEREAS, Edmund Lawler is a veteran of the United States
20 Army (1952-1954) and the Korean War; he is the former
21 Director of Oak Forest Hospital, a post he held for 34 years
22 until his retirement in 1993; he is a founding member of his
23 parish, St. Damian's Catholic Church in Oak Forest as well as
24 a founding member of the St. Damian's Grammar School Board of
25 Education, which helped to create the school; he currently is
26 a lobbyist for the American Association of Retired Persons
27 (AARP) and teaches graduate courses in hospital
28 administration at various colleges; in his spare time he
29 enjoys playing golf; and
30 WHEREAS, Jean Lawler is a former teacher and nurse and
31 served as a patient representative at Oak Forest Hospital for

1 ten years; in her free time she enjoys reading, playing
2 bridge, and gardening; and
3 WHEREAS, The respect for marriage reaches one of its
4 highest plateaus when a couple such as Edmund and Jean Lawler
5 celebrate their golden wedding anniversary; and
6 WHEREAS, Edmund and Jean Lawler stand as examples of the
7 best of our society, and their love and devotion to each
8 other and to their family and friends serve as a reminder to
9 all that hard work, dedication, and love can make a
10 difference in today's world; therefore, be it
11 RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE
12 NINETY-SECOND GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that
13 we congratulate Edmund and Jean Lawler on the occasion of
14 their fiftieth wedding anniversary; that we commend them for
15 achieving a long and happy marriage, blessed with children
16 and grandchildren and rich in friendships; and that we wish
17 them happiness and good health in the future; and be it
18 further
19 RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
20 presented to Edmund and Jean Lawler as an expression of our
21 respect and esteem.
