1 HOUSE RESOLUTION
2 WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of
3 Representatives are pleased to honor the milestones in the
4 lives of outstanding citizens of the State of Illinois; and
5 WHEREAS, Robert R. "Bob" Reed of Manteno, Illinois, has
6 been selected as the "Citizen of the Year" by the Manteno
7 Historical Society and will be honored at their annual dinner
8 on Saturday, April 27, 2002; and
9 WHEREAS, Mr. Reed is a life long resident of the Village
10 of Manteno, County of Kankakee, and State of Illinois; and
11 WHEREAS, Mr. Reed was an exceptional student at both
12 Manteno Grade school and Manteno High School, where he
13 received his formal education; and
14 WHEREAS, Mr. Reed valiantly served his country in the
15 United States Army during the Korean War; and
16 WHEREAS, Mr. Reed was the proprietor and operator of
17 Bud's Inn in Manteno for over 25 years, providing his fellow
18 citizenry with a place of gathering and enjoyment, and where
19 he entertained his guests with a silky voice and the fine
20 tunes of Frank Sinatra and Tony Bennett; and
21 WHEREAS, Mr. Reed is a lifelong member of the Republican
22 Party and on many occasions has voted for Democratic
23 candidates; and
24 WHEREAS, Mr. Reed is a retired employee of the State of
25 Illinois; and
26 WHEREAS, Mr. Reed serves as Manteno Township Clerk, is a
27 member of the Manteno American Legion Post 755, the Manteno
28 Chamber of Commerce, the Manteno Sportsman Club and an
29 Ambassador of Goodwill on behalf of his community; and

1 WHEREAS, Mr. Reed is a rabid fan of the Chicago Cubs
2 despite the Cubs not having won a World Series Championship
3 in over 50 years; and
4 WHEREAS. Mr. Reed is the only known citizen of the State
5 of Illinois to ever have had an herbivorous mammal as a guest
6 in his pub; and
7 WHEREAS, Mr. Reed is the proud and dedicated father of
8 Alice Raye Reed and the loving husband of the late Juanita
9 St. Aubin Reed; therefore, be it
10 RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE
11 NINETY-SECOND GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that
12 we congratulate Robert R. "Bob" Reed on the occasion of his
13 selection as the Manteno Historical Society "Citizen of the
14 Year" and for his many professional and civic
15 accomplishments; and be it further
16 RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
17 presented to Robert R. "Bob" Reed as an expression of our
18 esteem.
