1 HOUSE RESOLUTION
2 WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of
3 Representatives wish to recognize notable achievements of
4 citizens of the State of Illinois; and
5 WHEREAS, Each year the Secretary of State/Illinois State
6 Library Literacy Office and the Illinois Press Association
7 host the Spotlight on Achievement and Spotlight on Service
8 Awards, recognizing outstanding progress made by literacy
9 students or families and honoring volunteer tutors for their
10 heroic commitment to literacy; and
11 WHEREAS, Dorothy Hawn, a volunteer tutor from Kaskaskia
12 College, will receive the Spotlight on Service Award on May
13 17, 2002 in Springfield; and
14 WHEREAS, Dorothy Hawn has volunteered as a Literacy Tutor
15 in the Reading Link Adult Literacy Program at Kaskaskia
16 College in Centralia for the past 12 years; she has tutored
17 over 600 hours since January 1990; in addition, she
18 participates in local "Tutor Talks" and in many
19 out-of-district services; and
20 WHEREAS, Dorothy Hawn is a lead tutor at Kaskaskia
21 College and helps tutor trainees with observations and
22 assisting; she currently tutors an English as a Second
23 Language Class and is tutoring the English language to a
24 foreign student one-on-one; and
25 WHEREAS, Dorothy Hawn has received great satisfaction and
26 reward from her tutoring experiences; her inspiration has
27 helped a man pass the Commercial Driver's License test with
28 flying colors after less than a year's reading instruction
29 and has provided a female student, who had been hampered by
30 low self-esteem, the gift of confidence in her reading
31 skills; and

1 WHEREAS, In recognition of her work with the Reading Link
2 Adult Literacy Program, Dorothy Hawn was the recipient of the
3 Reading Link Tutor of the Year in 1998; therefore, be it
4 RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE
5 NINETY-SECOND GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that
6 we congratulate Dorothy Hawn on receiving the Spotlight on
7 Service Award in recognition of her dedication and service as
8 a Literacy Tutor with the Reading Link Adult Literacy Program
9 at Kaskaskia College in Centralia; and be it further
10 RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
11 presented to Dorothy Hawn as an expression of our esteem.
