 1                          HOUSE RESOLUTION

 2        WHEREAS,  The  members   of   the   Illinois   House   of
 3    Representatives  are  proud  to recognize milestone events in
 4    the lives of the citizens of this State; and

 5        WHEREAS, It has come  to  our  attention  that  Commander
 6    Maurice  D.  Ford  recently  retired  from the Chicago Police
 7    Department; and

 8        WHEREAS,  Commander  Ford  attended  and  graduated  from
 9    Corpus Christi Elementary School and Hyde Park  High  School;
10    he  received his A.A. Degree from Wright Junior College, then
11    went on  to  attend  Northwestern  University  and  Roosevelt
12    University, where he earned his B.A. Degree; and

13        WHEREAS,  Commander  Ford  served his country in the U.S.
14    Marine Corp from 1957 to 1968; and

15        WHEREAS, Commander Ford's distinguished  Law  Enforcement
16    career  began  when  he  entered  the  Police Academy and was
17    certified as a Chicago Police Officer on June 14,  1965;  his
18    first  assignment  was  as  a  patrolman in the 3rd district;
19    Commander  Ford  was  promoted  to  Sergeant  in   1981   and
20    Lieutenant in 1991; following his promotion as Lieutenant, he
21    was  assigned  as  a Tactical Lieutenant in the 7th District,
22    Englewood  Community;  in  July  1998,  he  was  promoted  by
23    Superintendant Terry Hillard to District Commander of the 7th
24    District; and

25        WHEREAS, Commander Ford  has  been  assigned  to  various
26    specialized units in the Chicago Police Department throughout
27    his  career,  such  as  Gang  Intelligence,  the Intelligence
28    Division, and the Internal Affairs Unit; and

29        WHEREAS, Maurice D. Ford has been married  to  his  wife,
30    Jane,  for 42 years; she is a retired Chicago School Teacher;
31    therefore, be it

 1        RESOLVED,  BY  THE  HOUSE  OF  REPRESENTATIVES   OF   THE
 2    NINETY-SECOND GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that
 3    we  congratulate Commander Maurice D. Ford for his many years
 4    of service and dedication with the Chicago Police  Department
 5    and  wish him all the best in his future endeavors; and be it
 6    further

 7        RESOLVED, That a suitable  copy  of  this  resolution  be
 8    presented  to  Commander  Maurice D. Ford as an expression of
 9    our esteem.
