 1                          HOUSE RESOLUTION

 2        WHEREAS,  The  members   of   the   Illinois   House   of
 3    Representatives    are   honored   to   recognize   milestone
 4    achievements in businesses in the State of Illinois; and

 5        WHEREAS, Multi-generational family-owned businesses  will
 6    be  honored  by  the Greater Centralia Chamber of Commerce at
 7    its 78th annual banquet on March 14, 2002; and

 8        WHEREAS, Fifty-two Chamber of Commerce member businesses,
 9    which have been owned by at least two generations of the same
10    family, will be recognized; the banquet's theme this year  is
11    "Keeping the Tradition"; and

12        WHEREAS,  Heading  the  list  is  the  Centralia  Morning
13    Sentinel,  now  in  its  sixth  generation of the Joy/Perrine
14    family ownership, followed by Community Trust Bank, which  is
15    in its fifth generation of ownership by the same family; and

16        WHEREAS,   The   businesses   celebrating   their  fourth
17    generation of ownership include, Beck Bus, Wham &  Wham,  and
18    Garnier & Sons Funeral Home; and

19        WHEREAS,   The   businesses   celebrating   their   third
20    generation  of  ownership  include,  Don  Geary Realty, Inc.,
21    Erbes   Gas   Heating   Specialist,   Industrial   Mechanical
22    Contractors  Inc.,  Pries  Implement  Co.,  Reading   Outdoor
23    Advertising,  Seip Oil Properties, Inc., and Yancy Electric &
24    Appliance Co.; and

25        WHEREAS,  The   businesses   celebrating   their   second
26    generation  of  ownership  include,  A.C.  Mann  Inc., Alcorn
27    Insurance Agency Inc., Charles Brink DDS, Biggies II, Biggies
28    Cafe & General Store, Brothers Carpet Corral, Centralia Dairy
29    Queen, Centralia Laundry &  Cleaners,  Centralia  Stationery,
30    Centralia  Transmission Service, Centralia Terminal, Coldwell
31    Banker-Allen  Real  Estate,  Country  Bob's,  DePew  &   Owen

10    Glass  Co.,  Matthew  Stedelin,  M.D.,   Straith's   Jewelry,
11    Williams Chiropractic, and radio stations WILY/WRXX and WMIX;
12    and

13        WHEREAS, The secret to the longevity and success of these
14    businesses is the valued treatment of their customers and the
15    contributions   they   provide  for  the  betterment  of  the
16    community; and

17        WHEREAS, With modern technology on the rise, having  over
18    50  multi-generational  businesses in the Centralia community
19    is impressive and it shows that there are  opportunities  for
20    these  types of businesses to prosper and be passed down from
21    one generation to the next; therefore, be it

22        RESOLVED,  BY  THE  HOUSE  OF  REPRESENTATIVES   OF   THE
23    NINETY-SECOND GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that
24    we  congratulate  the fifty-two Centralia Chamber of Commerce
25    member  family-owned  businesses  on  being  honored  by  the
26    Greater Centralia Chamber of Commerce  for  their  dedication
27    and service to the Centralia community; and be it further

28        RESOLVED,  That  suitable  copies  of  this resolution be
29    presented  to  each  of  the   fifty-two   multi-generational
30    family-owned businesses as an expression of our esteem.
