1 HOUSE RESOLUTION
2 WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of
3 Representatives are honored to recognize milestone events in
4 the lives of the citizens of the State of Illinois; and
5 WHEREAS, It has come to our attention that Dr. Alan C.
6 Jones is retiring from his duties as principal of Community
7 High School in West Chicago after 17 years of service; and
8 WHEREAS, Dr. Alan C. Jones has been principal of
9 Community High School for seventeen years, from 1983-2002; in
10 addition, he was a language arts teacher at Du Sable Upper
11 Grade Center from 1969 to 1971 and a social studies teacher
12 at Thornton Township High School from 1971 to 1981; and
13 WHEREAS, Dr. Jones began his administrative career as an
14 Activities Director at Thornton Township High School from
15 1979 through 1981 and was appointed as Assistant Principal at
16 Bremen Township High School in 1981; and
17 WHEREAS, Dr. Jones earned his Masters Degree in history
18 from Roosevelt University and his Doctorate in Administration
19 and Supervision from Loyola University in 1985; Dr. Jones is
20 a member of Phi Delta Kappa, a fraternity for the advancement
21 of professional education and Alpha Sigma Nu, the National
22 Jesuit Honor Society; and
23 WHEREAS, Dr. Jones has received a number of awards for
24 instructional innovation; in 1994, West Chicago High School
25 received a certificate of achievement from College of Du Page
26 for "strong education for Latino's future"; in 1995, Dr.
27 Jones received a certificate of achievement from the State
28 Board of Education for "exceptional contribution to the
29 advancement of educational innovation in Illinois" and was
30 recognized by the American Intercultural Student Exchange for
31 his "outstanding contribution in international education and

1 understanding"; and
2 WHEREAS, In 1993, the United States Department of
3 Education recognized Dr. Jones as Principal of a Blue Ribbon
4 School of Excellence; and
5 WHEREAS, In addition to his duties at Community High
6 School, Dr. Jones also teaches education courses at North
7 Central College and is the author of a number of articles for
8 professional journals; therefore, be it
9 RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE
10 NINETY-SECOND GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that
11 we congratulate Dr. Alan C. Jones on his retirement from his
12 duties as principal of Community High School in West Chicago
13 and we wish him well in all of his future endeavors; and be
14 it further
15 RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
16 presented to Dr. Alan C. Jones as an expression of our
17 esteem.
