 1                          HOUSE RESOLUTION

 2        WHEREAS,  The  members   of   the   Illinois   House   of
 3    Representatives  wish to express their sincere condolences to
 4    the family and friends of Daniel T. Drew, mayor of  Waukegan,
 5    who passed away on January 30, 2002; and

 6        WHEREAS, A member of a pioneer Waukegan family, Daniel T.
 7    Drew  was born on July 22, 1948 in Waukegan to Daniel B. Drew
 8    and Anne Drew; the first  Drews  came  to  Lake  County  from
 9    Ireland  in the 1830s; in Mr. Drew's generation there were 14
10    Drew cousins who grew up in Waukegan and who share  his  love
11    for community and commitment to public service; and

12        WHEREAS, Mr. Drew was a member of St. Anastasia Parish, a
13    graduate of Immaculate Conception High School and a member of
14    the  first  graduating  class of Carmel High School; Mr. Drew
15    attended the University of St. Thomas in St. Paul, Minnesota,
16    and graduated from Loyola University  in  Chicago;  Mr.  Drew
17    received  his  master's degree from Webster University in St.
18    Louis, Missouri; and

19        WHEREAS,  Mr. Drew was the Superintendent of Finance  for
20    the  Waukegan  Park  District  for  16  years,  Waukegan City
21    Collector from 1979 to 1985,  City  Treasurer  from  1993  to
22    2001, and currently was mayor of the city of Waukegan; and

23        WHEREAS, It was Mr. Drew's dream from childhood to be the
24    Mayor of Waukegan; he was uniquely suited to the job not only
25    with the proper credentials, but also the temperament and the
26    vision to be a great mayor; and

27        WHEREAS,  Mayor  Drew  loved  Waukegan and the people who
28    lived in it; he had a talent  for  inspiring  people  of  all
29    races,  nationalities,  and walks of life to work together to
30    renew the cultural, economic, educational, and social  fabric
31    of Waukegan; and

 1        WHEREAS, In addition to his public service in government,
 2    Mayor  Drew  volunteered  many hours of service to his church
 3    and community; he coached grade school  football,  served  on
 4    his  parish  school  board,  and  appeared  every year in the
 5    Carmel High School fundraiser, Street Scenes; and

 6        WHEREAS, Mayor Drew  loved  to  gather  with  family  and
 7    friends to celebrate the joyous occasions of life, birthdays,
 8    graduations,  and holidays; best of all, he loved to root for
 9    the Chicago Bears; and

10        WHEREAS, The death of Mayor Drew will be deeply  felt  by
11    all  who  knew  him  and loved him, especially his wife of 30
12    years,  Peggy;  his  children,  Maggie  (Fred)   Losch,   Dan
13    (Allison)  Drew, Christine Drew, and Kevin Drew; his sisters,
14    Marianne (Peter) Jula, Donna (Claude) Incaudo, Sr. Betty Drew
15    S.H.C.J., and Kathleen (Ron) Spong; his  aunts,  Lollie  Drew
16    and  Carol  Mather;  his  uncle, Al Sudeikis; as well as many
17    cousins, nieces, and nephews; therefore, be it

18        RESOLVED,  BY  THE  HOUSE  OF  REPRESENTATIVES   OF   THE
19    NINETY-SECOND GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that
20    mourn, along with all who knew him, the death of Mayor Daniel
21    T. Drew of Waukegan; and be it further

22        RESOLVED,  That  a  suitable  copy  of this resolution be
23    presented to the family of Mayor  Daniel  T.  Drew  with  our
24    deepest sympathies.
