 1                          HOUSE RESOLUTION

 2        WHEREAS, Skillful, enthusiastic, and innovative  teachers
 3    change  the  lives  of  countless students for the letter and
 4    forever by encouraging curiosity  and  understanding  and  by
 5    contributing to the development of mind and spirit; and

 6        WHEREAS,   The  U.S.  Professors  of  the  Year  program,
 7    presented by The Carnegie Foundation for the  Advancement  of
 8    Teaching  and  directed  by  the  Council for Advancement and
 9    Support of Education, is the nation's most  highly  respected
10    program to recognize outstanding faculty; and

11        WHEREAS,   The   2001  Illinois  Professor  of  the  Year
12    represents the thousands of dedicated university and  college
13    instructors  throughout  Illinois  who  serve their students,
14    their community and their state with dedication  and  talent;
15    and

16        WHEREAS,   The  State  of  Illinois  has  long  supported
17    excellence in undergraduate  teaching  through  competitively
18    funding  faculty  salaries  and other initiatives to make our
19    system of higher education the envy of many states and  other
20    nations; and

21        WHEREAS,  Constance A. Mixon, an instructor at Richard J.
22    Daley College on Chicago's Southwest Side, is the first  City
23    Colleges faculty member to win this prestigious award; she is
24    being  honored for her dedication and service to the students
25    at Daley College, for her  work  in  the  school's  political
26    science  department  and  for  accomplishments with the Model
27    Illinois Government Program; and

28        WHEREAS, Constance Mixon has also  been  honored  as  the
29    Woman   of  the  Year  by  Daley  College  AACCW;  under  her
30    leadership  as  faculty  advisor,  Daley   College   received
31    Outstanding    Small    Delegation,    Outstanding   Original

 1    Legislation, and Outstanding Committee Person  in  the  House
 2    honors from Model Illinois Government; in addition, she was a
 3    Preparing Future Faculty grant recipient; therefore, be it

 4        RESOLVED,   BY   THE  HOUSE  OF  REPRESENTATIVES  OF  THE
 5    NINETY-SECOND GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that
 6    we  congratulate  Constance  A.  Mixon,   political   science
 7    instructor  at Richard J. Daley College, upon being named the
 8    2001 Illinois Professor of the Year and we wish her continued
 9    success in the future; and be it further

10        RESOLVED, That a suitable  copy  of  this  resolution  be
11    presented  to  Constance  A.  Mixon  as  an expression of our
12    esteem.
