1 HOUSE RESOLUTION
2 WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of
3 Representatives are pleased to recognize milestone events in
4 the history of education in the State of Illinois; and
5 WHEREAS, It has come to our attention that Union Ridge
6 School in Harwood Heights was the recent recipient of the
7 prestigious Blue Ribbon Award presented by the U.S. Secretary
8 of Education; and
9 WHEREAS, The Blue Ribbon program spotlights schools from
10 around the country that have excelled in school leadership,
11 teaching, curriculum, student achievement and parental
12 involvement; the program sponsored by the Office of
13 Educational Research and Improvement of the U.S. Department
14 of Education, has recognized America's top schools since
15 1982; and
16 WHEREAS, The Harwood elementary school is one of 11
17 Illinois schools out of a state-recommended pool of more than
18 200 to win the Blue Ribbon; and
19 WHEREAS, Selection of Blue Ribbon Schools is based on an
20 evaluation of written materials from the nominated schools
21 and the reports of experienced principals and administrators
22 who conducted site visits to these schools; reviewers make
23 recommendations to the Secretary of Education for final
24 selection; and
25 WHEREAS, This year, 223 public schools and 41 private
26 schools in 38 states and a Department of Defense school in
27 Belgium were recognized; therefore, be it
28 RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE
29 NINETY-SECOND GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that
30 we congratulate Union Ridge School on being selected as a
31 Blue Ribbon School; and be it further

1 RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
2 presented to Timothy J. Corrigan, principal of Union Ridge
3 School, as an expression of our esteem.
