1 HOUSE RESOLUTION
2 WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of
3 Representatives are pleased to recognize milestone events in
4 the lives of the citizens of the State of Illinois; and
5 WHEREAS, It has come to our attention that Edwin Finney
6 of St. Anne, Illinois, is the recipient of the 2001 Lowe
7 School Board Member Recognition Award; and
8 WHEREAS, The Lowe School Board Member Recognition Award
9 is an honor recently established by the Pledge for Life
10 Partnership in memory of Dorothea Lowe, mother of Illinois
11 First Lady Lura Lynn Ryan, who served on the Aroma Park
12 School Board and gave countless hours to making the greater
13 Kankakee area a safer and healthier place to live; the award
14 was dedicated to recognize school board members from Kankakee
15 and Iroquois counties who mirror her dedication; and
16 WHEREAS, A native of Hudson, New York, Mr. Finney has
17 been a resident of St. Anne since 1969; he holds a degree in
18 ceramic engineering from Alfred University in Alfred, New
19 York, and has built and managed brickyards in Ohio, Iowa,
20 Indiana, and Illinois; he is retired from Crown Cork and Seal
21 in Bradley; and
22 WHEREAS, For the last 20 years, Mr. Finney has served as
23 the Papineau Township supervisor and he is a past president
24 of the Iroquois County Township Officials; and
25 WHEREAS, Mr. Finney has been a member of the St. Anne
26 Community High School Board of Education for 18 years,
27 including two terms as president; he also served on the
28 collective bargaining committee and presently is a member of
29 the school's Climate Committee and the School Improvement
30 Advisory Team; and
31 WHEREAS, Mr. Finney's most impressive accomplishment is

1 his dedication to the students at St. Anne Community High
2 School; over the years, he has been present at over 500
3 social and athletic events, provided rides for students in
4 need of transportation and has chaperoned every dance in
5 recent memory; he is also active in the Reading is
6 Fundamental program and is a volunteer tutor and test
7 proctor; in addition, he rarely misses any sports event and
8 has taken over the responsibility of selling tickets at all
9 the home basketball games; he was recently designated "St.
10 Anne High School's biggest Cardinals fan"; and
11 WHEREAS, Every year, Mr. Finney faithfully helps out with
12 fundraisers, provides the vehicle needed to pull the
13 International Club's float each year at the annual St. Anne
14 Pumpkin Festival and continually opens his home for student
15 gatherings; and
16 WHEREAS, Two of Edwin Finney's children graduated from
17 St. Anne Community High School and he and his wife Pat have
18 hosted 18 foreign exchange students over the last two
19 decades; therefore, be it
20 RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE
21 NINETY-SECOND GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that
22 we honor Edwin Finney for his dedication, compassion, and
23 devoted service to the faculty, staff, and students at St.
24 Anne Community High School and on being the recipient of the
25 2001 Lowe School Board Member Recognition Award; and be it
26 further
27 RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
28 presented to Edwin Finney as an expression of our esteem.
