 1                          HOUSE RESOLUTION

 2        WHEREAS,  The  members   of   the   Illinois   House   of
 3    Representatives  are pleased to recognize milestone events in
 4    the lives of the citizens of the State of Illinois; and

 5        WHEREAS, It has come to our attention that Ann B. Painter
 6    is retiring from her  duties  as  Lyons  Township  Republican
 7    Committeeman this year; and

 8        WHEREAS,  Ann  B. Painter has served three terms as Lyons
 9    Township Committeeman since 1985 and one term as  a  trustee;
10    in addition, she served as a Precinct Captain, as a member of
11    the Lyons Township Executive Committee during Charles Percy's
12    run  for  Governor  and  U.S. Senate, as committeewoman under
13    George Burditt and David Tomei, as chairman  of  presidential
14    phone  banks,  and  was  in  the 1978 listing of Who's Who in
15    politics; and

16        WHEREAS, Before her illustrious career in  politics,  Ann
17    B.  Painter  worked  as  a  Math  and U.S. History teacher in
18    Atwood,  as  the  first  woman  Weather   Observer,   as   an
19    Airport/Airway  Traffic  Controller,  and  helped trained the
20    B-26 pilots for the D-Day invasion of Europe; and

21        WHEREAS, In addition to  her  political  career,  Ann  B.
22    Painter   has   selflessly   volunteered  her  time  to  many
23    organizations for the past 50 years, including  as  the  Ways
24    and Means Chairman of the LaGrange Highlands Women's Club, as
25    a  board  member of the LaGrange Highlands Civic Association,
26    as cookie chairman of the  West  Cook  Council  of  the  Girl
27    Scouts,  as  President  of  the LaGrange area United Fund, as
28    president,  treasurer  and  board  member  of  the   LaGrange
29    Community  Nurse and Service, as a volunteer with the Proviso
30    Mental Health Center, as a board member of OEO and CEDA, as a
31    board member of the West Suburban Homemaker Association, as a
32    finance  committee  member  of  the  Salt  Creek  Council  of

 1    Campfire Girls, and as a volunteer of Plymouth Place; and

 2        WHEREAS,  In  addition,  Ann  Painter  has  provided  her
 3    services to West Suburban Family Counseling Service, Suburban
 4    Cook-DuPage Health Systems Agency, the Southwest  Council  on
 5    Aging,  708  Lyons  Township  Mental  Health  Board, the Mary
 6    Thompson Hospital, the  Illinois  Hospital  Association,  Dr.
 7    William  Thompson's  ad  hoc  committee  funded  by a Kellogg
 8    Grant,  AHA  committee  on  peer  review,  Chicago   Hospital
 9    Council,  the  West  Central  Business  Association,  Chicago
10    Health Resources, Inc., the Department of Children and Family
11    Services,  Western  Springs  AAUW,  Daughters of the American
12    Revolution-LaGrange  Unit,  LaGrange  Newcomers  Alumni,  the
13    Salvation Army, the Business and Professional  Women's  Club,
14    the  Corner  Shoppe, and has provided income tax services for
15    senior citizens for the past 30 years; and

16        WHEREAS,  Ann  Painter  has  made  countless  numbers  of
17    accomplishments  during  her  political   career,   including
18    helping  the  LaGrange  Highlands  acquire  sewers and water,
19    helping initiate the LaGrange  Highlands  Sanitary  District,
20    serving  as  chairman of the swine flu vaccination program in
21    1976, re-organizing the Lyons Township Committee on Youth and
22    the Lyons Township  Transportation  Program,  implementing  a
23    senior  counseling  service between the Senior Center and the
24    Mental Health Agency, and spearheading the implementation  of
25    paramedics  throughout  Lyons  Township; in addition, she was
26    the chairman of the firth health Day for Seniors in 1970  and
27    worked  to  start  all types of programs for senior citizens;
28    and

29        WHEREAS, In October of 1996, LaGrange Community Nurse and
30    Service named the new pediatric clinic in  honor  of  Ann  B.
31    Painter  for  her  dedication  and  service  to  the LaGrange
32    community; in addition, she was named Woman of  the  Year  in
33    1986  by the West Suburban Chamber of Commerce; therefore, be

 2        RESOLVED,  BY  THE  HOUSE  OF  REPRESENTATIVES   OF   THE
 3    NINETY-SECOND GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that
 4    we congratulate Ann B. Painter for her dedication and service
 5    to the residents of LaGrange for the last 50 years and on her
 6    forthcoming retirement; and be it further

 7        RESOLVED,  That  a  suitable  copy  of this resolution be
 8    presented to Ann B. Painter as an expression of our esteem.
