1 HOUSE RESOLUTION
2 WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of
3 Representatives are pleased to recognize milestone events in
4 the lives of the citizens of the State of Illinois; and
5 WHEREAS, It has come to our attention that Gena Rawlins
6 of Olympia High School recently won her third consecutive
7 Class A State Track 400-Meter Dash Title; and
8 WHEREAS, In front of a large audience at the 29th Class A
9 State Track Meet, held at the O'Brien Stadium, Gena Rawlins
10 put on an outstanding display of athleticism and
11 sportsmanship as she became the first three-time Class A
12 400-Meter champion; and
13 WHEREAS, Gena Rawlins built an early lead in the
14 400-Meter, but the gap shrunk as Aurora Central Catholic's
15 Tominque Boatright evened the score; with 20 meters left, Ms.
16 Rawlins tapped an unknown reserve of strength to respond and
17 finish with a career best of 56.22 seconds; and
18 WHEREAS, Although she fell short of the official meet
19 record by two hundredths of a second, Gena Rawlins ascended
20 the top spot on the awards podium, where she was applauded by
21 her family, friends, coaches, teammates, and many well
22 wishers on her outstanding accomplishments; and
23 WHEREAS, In addition to her incredible feat, Gena Rawlins
24 also served as a member of the State Championship 800 Relay
25 Team and was named the 2001 Illinois High School Association
26 Athlete of the Year; therefore, be it
27 RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE
28 NINETY-SECOND GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that
29 we congratulate Gena Rawlins on winning her third consecutive
30 Class A State Track 400-Meter Dash Title; and be it further

1 RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
2 presented to Gena Rawlins as an expression of our esteem.
