1 HOUSE RESOLUTION
2 WHEREAS, The members of the House of Representatives are
3 pleased to recognize milestone events in the lives of the
4 citizens of the State of Illinois; and
5 WHEREAS, It has come to our attention that Dr. Charles W.
6 Ponquinette is retiring from his duties as Superintendent of
7 Aurora East School District 131 this year; and
8 WHEREAS, Dr. Charles W. Ponquinette was born on December
9 13, 1941 in Mobile, Alabama; he graduated from Pure Heart of
10 Mary High School in 1959, earned his bachelor's degree from
11 Talladego College in 1963, his master's degree from the
12 University of Illinois at Champaign in 1967, and his Ph.D.
13 from the University of Michigan in 1981; and
14 WHEREAS, Dr. Ponquinette is a veteran of the United
15 States Air Force serving from 1963 until 1967; and
16 WHEREAS, Dr. Ponquinette has enjoyed an outstanding
17 career devoted to Aurora East School District 131; he began
18 his career as a Special Education teacher from 1967 until
19 1969; from 1970 through 1974 he served as Director of Pupil
20 Personnel Services; from 1975 to 1976 he served as Assistant
21 Superintendent of Elementary Education; from 1976 until 1983,
22 he was Assistant Superintendent of Personnel; in 1984 he was
23 appointed Acting Superintendent, and later assumed the role
24 of Superintendent; and
25 WHEREAS, Dr. Ponquinette is a member of numerous
26 professional associations, which include Phi Delta Kappa,
27 Kappa Delta Pi, the Rotary Club, the Aurora University Board
28 of Directors and Academic Affairs Committee, the Aurora
29 Foundation Board of Directors, the Aurora Economic
30 Development Commission, the Statewide Citizen's Committee on
31 Child Abuse and Neglect (SCAN), the YMCA Board of Trustees,

1 the Board of Directors for Mental Health and Mental
2 Retardation Services, Inc., and the Board of Directors at
3 Provena-Mercy Hospital; and
4 WHEREAS, Dr. Charles W. Ponquinette is supported by his
5 very proud and loving family, which includes his children,
6 Jason, Justin, and Scott; and
7 WHEREAS, The Aurora East Educational Foundation will
8 honor the outstanding career of Dr. Charles W. Ponquinette on
9 April 26, 2001; therefore, be it
10 RESOLVED BY HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE NINETY-SECOND
11 GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we
12 congratulate Dr. Charles W. Ponquinette on his retirement
13 from his duties as Superintendent of Aurora East School
14 District 131; and we wish him well in all of his future
15 endeavors; and be it further
16 RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
17 presented to Dr. Charles W. Ponquinette as an expression of
18 our esteem.
