1 HOUSE RESOLUTION
2 WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of
3 Representatives are pleased to recognize milestone events in
4 the lives of the citizens of the State of Illinois; and
5 WHEREAS, The Board of Directors of the Illinois Arts
6 Alliance Foundation will award Lewis Manilow with the
7 Illinois Arts Legend Award for Advocate at the annual
8 Illinois Arts Legend Awards Benefit Dinner on April 2, 2001;
9 and
10 WHEREAS, Lewis Manilow has made extraordinary
11 contributions to the cultural life of Illinois through his
12 philanthropic support, dedication and leadership; his
13 commitment to the arts in Illinois includes his tenure as
14 past President and Trustee of the Museum of Contemporary Art,
15 and as a visionary in the revitalization of the North Loop
16 theater district, home of the new Goodman Theater; and
17 WHEREAS, The State of Illinois has particularly benefited
18 from Mr. Manilow's generosity and lasting contributions to
19 the performing and fine arts over the past thirty years;
20 through his outstanding commitment, Illinois continues to
21 flourish as a benchmark for the arts on a national and
22 international level; some of the institutions that Mr.
23 Manilow has actively supported over the years include the
24 Museum of Contemporary Art, the Art Institute of Chicago, the
25 Renaissance Society at the University of Chicago, the Field
26 Museum of Natural History, the Goodman Theater, and the
27 Chicago Shakespeare Theater; and
28 WHEREAS, Mr. Manilow's deep involvement in the arts
29 extends to the national front; he has served on boards,
30 councils, and committees for various national institutions,
31 including the National Gallery in Washington, D.C., the
32 Harvard Museum, the Museum of Modern Art, and the Whitney

1 Museum of American Art; and
2 WHEREAS, Mr. Manilow has been instrumental in promoting
3 the arts and strengthening the cultural institutions
4 throughout the State and country; he is truly a great
5 presence in the Chicago art community for his many
6 achievements and dedication to advocating and supporting the
7 arts; therefore, be it
8 RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE
9 NINETY-SECOND GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that
10 we congratulate Lewis Manilow on receiving the Illinois Arts
11 Legend Award for Advocate for his extraordinary contributions
12 to the cultural life of the State of Illinois; and be it
13 further
14 RESOLVED, That a copy of this resolution be presented to
15 Lewis Manilow as an expression of our esteem.
