 1                          HOUSE RESOLUTION

 2        WHEREAS,  The  members   of   the   Illinois   House   of
 3    Representatives  are pleased to recognize milestone events in
 4    the history of high school sports in the State  of  Illinois;
 5    and

 6        WHEREAS, Mount Carmel High School has been referred to as
 7    the  "Miracle  of  64th Street", located on the south side of
 8    Chicago at 6410 South Dante, with a history  that  spans  100
 9    years; and

10        WHEREAS,  As  Mount Carmel High School is celebrating its
11    centennial, 780 young men commute to school  from  a  hundred
12    parishes  in south metropolitan Chicagoland bound together by
13    a common vision and a common goal, symbolized  by  the  Brown
14    Scapular of Our Lady of Mount Carmel; and

15        WHEREAS,  In  the  Mount  Carmel High School tradition, a
16    student comes to Carmel as a boy and if he cares to  struggle
17    and work at it, he will leave as a man; and

18        WHEREAS,  In  furtherance  of  that  tradition, the Mount
19    Carmel High School Football team has been  named  the  1990's
20    Team of the Decade; and

21        WHEREAS,  The  Mount Carmel High School Football team won
22    the State Championship in 1980, 1988, 1989, 1990, 1991, 1996,
23    1998, 1999, and 2000 and was the State runner-up in 1986  and
24    1995, with an overall record of 563 wins and 196 losses; and

25        WHEREAS,  The  Mount Carmel High School Football team was
26    the Catholic League Champion for eleven years straight; and

27        WHEREAS, Mount Carmel High School is  led  by  principal,
28    Father  Carl  Markelz, O. Carm., and its football team is led
29    by Coach Frank Lenti, who has  been  named  the  High  School
30    Coach  of  the  Century  by the Chicago Tribune with a career

 1    record of 198 wins and 26 losses, leading the  team  to  nine
 2    State championships; therefore, be it

 3        RESOLVED,   BY   THE  HOUSE  OF  REPRESENTATIVES  OF  THE
 4    NINETY-SECOND GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that
 5    we congratulate Father Carl Markelz, O.  Carm.,  Coach  Frank
 6    Lenti,  and the 2000 Illinois State Champion Football Team of
 7    Mount   Carmel   High   School    for    its    extraordinary
 8    accomplishments; and be it further

 9        RESOLVED,  That  a  suitable  copy  of this resolution be
10    presented to Father  Carl  Markelz,  O.  Carm.,  Coach  Frank
11    Lenti,  and the 2000 Illinois State Champion Football Team of
12    Mount Carmel High School.
