1 HOUSE RESOLUTION
2 WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of
3 Representatives are pleased to recognize milestone events in
4 the history of high school organizations of the State of
5 Illinois; and
6 WHEREAS, The Oswego High School Marching Panthers
7 received the First Place and Grand Championship Award for
8 Concert Band performance at the recent Outback Bowl Music
9 Festival; and
10 WHEREAS, The Panthers participated with 4,000 other high
11 school band members during the Outback Bowl Halftime Show at
12 Raymond James Stadium in Tampa, Florida; all band members
13 took the field performing the famous Fanfare from "Also
14 Sprach Zarathustra" by Strauss, more commonly known as the
15 theme to "2001 Space Odyssey"; it was quickly followed by
16 "Hot, Hot, Hot" and a Ricky Martin favorite, "A Cup of Life";
17 the grand finale, the 30 seconds that ESPN aired on
18 television, included a performance of "America, the
19 Beautiful"; and
20 WHEREAS, While in Tampa, the Panthers participated in the
21 Mardi Gras atmosphered Outback Bowl Parade in Ybor City,
22 considered to be the Latin Quarter of Tampa; and
23 WHEREAS, National Events also sponsored the Outback Bowl
24 Music Festival; which included bands competing in concert
25 band, jazz band, field show, and percussion ensemble
26 competitions; the Oswego High School Marching Panthers
27 captured the First Place in Division III and the Grand
28 Championship Awards for Concert Band Performance; they also
29 received a second place in parade marching, jazz ensemble,
30 and percussion ensemble; sophomore horn player and pianist,
31 Jason Dyba, was the recipient of the Jazz Soloist Award;
32 thirty-eight bands competed in three divisions based upon

1 school size, Division III being the largest size; and
2 WHEREAS, The Oswego High School Marching Panthers
3 returned to Illinois with a stronger feeling of unity that
4 comes with working and making music together, with the thrill
5 of an outstanding performance that goes beyond what they have
6 experienced before; therefore, be it
7 RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE
8 NINETY-SECOND GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that
9 we congratulate the Oswego High School Marching Panthers on
10 winning the First Place in Division III and the Grand
11 Championship Award for Concert Band Performance at the recent
12 Outback Bowl in Tampa, Florida; and be it further
13 RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
14 presented to the principal of Oswego High School, the Band
15 Director at Oswego High School, and the entire Oswego High
16 School Marching Band as an expression of our esteem.
