1 AN ACT concerning feed.
2 Be it enacted by the People of the State of Illinois,
3 represented in the General Assembly:
4 Section 1. Short title. This Act may be cited as the
5 Phase-out of Fluoroquinolone Antibiotics in Livestock Feed
6 Act.
7 Section 5. Phase-out. Beginning on January 1, 2003, the
8 Department of Agriculture shall notify producers of the 3
9 year phase-out period concerning the use of fluoroquinolone
10 antibiotics in poultry and other livestock feeds sold in
11 Illinois and work with the producers to find alternative
12 feeds. Beginning on January 1, 2006, the use of
13 fluoroquinolone antibiotics in poultry and other livestock
14 feeds sold in Illinois is prohibited.
15 Section 10. Administration and enforcement. The
16 Department of Agriculture shall administer and enforce this
17 Act.
18 Section 15. Compliance. The Department of Agriculture
19 has the power to subpoena records and witnesses that the
20 Department of Agriculture deems necessary to enforce
21 compliance with this Act.
22 Section 20. Penalty. Violation of this Act is a Class A
23 misdemeanor. Each day of violation is a separate offense.
24 Section 35. Rules. The Department of Agriculture may
25 adopt rules for the implementation of this Act.
