1 AN ACT concerning swimming pool safety.
2 Be it enacted by the People of the State of Illinois,
3 represented in the General Assembly:
4 Section 5. The Swimming Pool and Bathing Beach Act is
5 amended by adding Section 13.5 as follows:
6 (210 ILCS 125/13.5 new)
7 Sec. 13.5. Underwater electrical lighting systems.
8 Underwater electrical lighting systems shall be installed in
9 swimming pools and spas in a manner so that there is no shock
10 hazard with any likely combination of fault conditions during
11 normal use. As a condition of being granted a license to
12 operate a swimming pool under this Act, the applicant for
13 licensure shall provide sufficient evidence that the swimming
14 pool has ground fault circuit interrupters installed in
15 compliance with the National Electrical Code of 1999, as now
16 or hereinafter amended, and with any electrical safety rules
17 promulgated by the Department.
18 On or after the effective date of this amendatory Act of
19 the 92nd General Assembly and as a condition of granting a
20 permit for the construction of a swimming pool, plans and
21 specifications for the construction of the pools must include
22 the installation of ground fault circuit interrupters in
23 compliance with the National Electrical Code of 1999, as now
24 or hereinafter amended, and with any electrical safety rules
25 promulgated by the Department.
26 Section 99. Effective date. This Act takes effect upon
27 becoming law.
