1 AN ACT in relation to vehicles.
2 WHEREAS, The State of Illinois has seen tremendous
3 population growth in many parts of the State; and
4 WHEREAS, A result of this growth has been increased
5 traffic congestion; and
6 WHEREAS, The timing, synchronization, and proper
7 operation of traffic lights directly affects the traffic
8 congestion problems in these areas; and
9 WHEREAS, Traffic congestion and drive times can be
10 significantly reduced if proper traffic light operation is
11 achieved; therefore
12 Be it enacted by the People of the State of Illinois,
13 represented in the General Assembly:
14 Section 5. The Illinois Vehicle Code is amended by
15 adding Section 11-304.1 as follows:
16 (625 ILCS 5/11-304.1 new)
17 Sec. 11-304.1. Traffic signal improvement report.
18 (a) The Department of Transportation shall continue its
19 efforts toward implementing improvements in the timing,
20 synchronization, and proper operation of traffic signals on
21 the highways under its jurisdiction and shall report on these
22 efforts within the high traffic areas of the State in 2
23 years.
24 (b) The Department shall report to the General Assembly
25 by January 1, 2004 with a summary of its accomplishments.
