 1        AN ACT concerning presidential electors.

 2        Be it enacted by the People of  the  State  of  Illinois,
 3    represented in the General Assembly:

 4        Section  5.   The  Election  Code  is amended by changing
 5    Section 21-4 as follows:

 6        (10 ILCS 5/21-4) (from Ch. 46, par. 21-4)
 7        Sec. 21-4. Presidential electors; meeting; allowance. The
 8    electors, elected under this Article as aforesaid, shall meet
 9    at the office of the Secretary of  State  in  a  room  to  be
10    designated by the Secretary him in the Capitol at Springfield
11    in  this  State,  at  the  time  appointed by the laws of the
12    United States at the hour of ten o'clock in the  forenoon  of
13    that  such  day,  and  give their votes for President and for
14    Vice-President of the United States,  in  the  manner  herein
15    provided  in  this Article, and perform such duties as are or
16    may be  required  by  law.  Each  elector  shall  receive  an
17    allowance  for  food  and lodging equal to the amount per day
18    permitted to be deducted for such expenses under the Internal
19    Revenue Code, plus a mileage allowance at the rate in  effect
20    under regulations promulgated pursuant to 5 U.S.C. 5707(b)(2)
21    for  the number of highway miles necessarily and conveniently
22    traveled, for every 20 miles necessary travel in going to the
23    seat of government to give his or her vote and  returning  to
24    his  or  her  residence and otherwise performing the official
25    duties of an elector, to be computed by the most usual route,
26    the sum of $3, to  be  paid  on  the  warrant  of  the  State
27    Comptroller,  out  of any money in the treasury not otherwise
28    appropriated,  and  any  person  appointed  by  the  electors
29    assembled to fill a vacancy shall also receive the allowances
30    compensation provided for electors appointed.
