 1        AN ACT concerning dental hygiene.

 2        Be  it  enacted  by  the People of the State of Illinois,
 3    represented in the General Assembly:

 4        Section 5.  The Illinois Dental Practice Act  is  amended
 5    by changing Section 13 as follows:

 6        (225 ILCS 25/13) (from Ch. 111, par. 2313)
 7        Sec.   13.    Qualifications  of  Applicants  for  Dental
 8    Hygienists.  Every person who desires to obtain a license  as
 9    a  dental hygienist shall apply to the Department in writing,
10    upon forms prepared and furnished by  the  Department.   Each
11    application   shall   contain   proof   of   the   particular
12    qualifications  required  of the applicant, shall be verified
13    by the applicant, under oath, and shall be accompanied by the
14    required examination fee.
15        The Department shall require that every applicant  for  a
16    license as a dental hygienist shall:
17        (1)  (Blank).
18        (2)  Be a graduate of high school or its equivalent.
19        (3)  Present satisfactory evidence of having successfully
20    completed  received  2  academic  years of credit at a dental
21    hygiene  program  accredited  by  the  Commission  on  Dental
22    Accreditation of  the  American  Dental  Association  or  its
23    successor  specialty  accrediting agency or its equivalent in
24    an approved program of dental hygiene.
25        (4)  Submit evidence that  he  holds  a  currently  valid
26    certification  to perform cardiopulmonary resuscitation.  The
27    Department  shall  adopt  rules  establishing  criteria   for
28    certification in cardiopulmonary resuscitation.  The rules of
29    the  Department shall provide for variances only in instances
30    where the applicant  is  physically  disabled  and  therefore
31    unable to secure such certification.

 1        (5)  (Blank).
 2        (6)  Pass  an  examination  authorized  or  given  by the
 3    Department  in  the  subjects  usually  taught  in   approved
 4    programs of dental hygiene, which examination shall determine
 5    the  qualifications  of  applicants  to perform the operative
 6    procedures of dental hygiene. The Department may recognize  a
 7    certificate granted by the National Board of Dental Examiners
 8    in lieu of, or subject to, such examination.

11        Section 99.  Effective date.  This Act takes effect  upon
12    becoming law.
