HOSP LIC ACT-MED STAFF                                                     

Synopsis of Bill as introduced:
        Amends the  Hospital  Licensing  Act.   Provides  procedures  for      
   hospitals  to  close  membership in the medical staff or department of      
   the hospital.  Provides that the minimum procedures for applicants for      
   medical staff  membership  also  apply  to  pre-applicants  and  those      
   requesting  an  application.   Provides  that  current  members of the      
   medical staff shall be given written notice  of  an  adverse  decision      
   concerning  medical staff or clinical privileges and written notice of      
   a final adverse decision by the  hospital  governing  board,  both  of      
   which are subject to waiver.                                                
        SENATE AMENDMENT NO. 1.                                                
        Provides that hospitals that require  medical  staff  members  to      
   possess faculty status with a specific institution of higher education      
   are  not required to comply with minimum procedures for pre-applicants      
   when   physicians   do   not   possess   faculty    status.    Defines      
   "pre-applicant".  Provides that any amendments to medical staff bylaws      
   required because of this amendatory Act shall be adopted  by  July  1,      
   2001.   Provides  procedures  for hospitals to close membership in the      
   medical staff or department of the hospital.
