Deletes a list of procedures and acts from the definition of dental services. Provides that a dental hygienist under the supervision of a dentist may administer and monitor nitrous oxide upon completion of a training program approved by the Department. Effective January 1, 2000. SENATE AMENDMENT NO. 1. Adds reference to: 225 ILCS 25/6 from Ch. 111, par. 2306 Deletes everything. Amends the Illinois Dental Practice Act. Provides that the Board shall be made up of 11 persons (instead of 10) with the additional member being a dental hygienist. Changes the list of procedures and activities that are not included in the definition of "dental services". Provides that a dental hygienist under the supervision of a dentist may administer and monitor nitrous oxide upon completion of a training program approved by the Department. SENATE AMENDMENT NO. 2. Provides that a dental hygienist may, under the supervision of a dentist, administer and monitor nitrous oxide upon successful completion of a training program approved by the Department. Makes technical changes. HOUSE AMENDMENT NO. 1. Provides that topical anesthetics, monitoring of nitrous oxide, and coronal polishing may be administered by a dental assistant who has completed a training program approved by the Department and are dental services. HOUSE AMENDMENT NO. 2. Provides that monitoring of nitrous oxide may be performed after successful completion of a training program approved by the Department. Provides that coronal polishing may be performed by a dental assistant who has completed a training program approved by the Department. Provides the conditions under which a dental assistant may perform coronal polishing.
