Synopsis of Bill as introduced:
Amends the Illinois Commercial Transportation Law Chapter of the
Illinois Vehicle Code. Provides that the Illinois Commerce Commission
shall authorize pilot projects in the counties of Cook, DuPage, Lake,
and Will to test the utility and safety of stationary automated
audible warning devices as an alternative to a proposed federal rule
requiring trains to sound their horns as they approach highway-rail
crossings. Provides that the pilot projects shall contribute data to
the Federal Railroad Administration's rulemaking process regarding the

alternative to the proposed rule. Provides that trains are not
required to ring a bell or sound a whistle or horn when approaching a
crossing that has a permanently installed automated audible warning
device authorized by the Commission. Provides that the Commission
shall adopt rules for implementing the pilot projects. Effective
