House Sponsors: HOLBROOK. Short description: CD CORR-INMATES-TOBACCO Synopsis of Bill as introduced: Amends the Unified Code of Corrections. Prohibits the possession of cigarettes and other tobacco products by inmates of Department of Corrections facilities built on or after January 1, 2001. Provides that the Director of Corrections may prohibit the possession of cigarettes and other tobacco products by inmates at other correctional facilities of the Department. Effective immediately. HOUSE AMENDMENT NO. 1. Provides that the prohibition against inmates possessing cigarettes and other tobacco products at Department of Corrections facilities designated by the Director and built on or after January 1, 2001 applies only for an institution or facility of the Department designated as a participant of a pilot program (rather than all institutions of the Department built on or after January 1, 2001).
