House Sponsors: GASH-FRITCHEY AND ERWIN. Short description: CRIM CD-HANDGUN STORAGE Synopsis of Bill as introduced: Amends the Criminal Code of 1961. Creates the offense of negligent storage of a handgun. Provides that it is a petty offense with a maximum fine of $500 for a parent or guardian of a child to permit the child to be present on premises under the parent or guardian's control and to leave the child on the premises without supervision of a person at least 21 years of age and to negligently leave a handgun on the premises that is not locked in a lock box, secured with a cable lock, or rendered inoperable. Provides that fines collected for this offense shall be deposited into the Violence Prevention Fund. CORRECTIONAL NOTE (Department of Corrections) This legislation would have no fiscal or population impact. JUDICIAL NOTE (Administrative Office of Ill. Courts) There may be a minimal increase in judicial workloads; there would not be an increase in the number of judges needed.
