MAHAR-RADOGNO-LINK, SULLIVAN, PETERSON, LIGHTFORD, PARKER AND OBAMA.

(DURKIN-LANG-LYONS,EILEEN-CURRIE-GASH)

   720 ILCS 5/24-9 new                                                         

        Amends the Criminal Code of 1961.  Makes keeping a loaded firearm      
   accessible to a child under 14 years a  Class  A  misdemeanor  if  the      
   child  gains  access  to  the firearm and causes death or great bodily      
   injury using the firearm.  Establishes exceptions.  Provides for civil      
   damages.                                                                    
        SENATE AMENDMENT NO. 1.                                                
        Provides that the minor must not have a Firearm Owner's Identi-        
   fication Card in order for the person who stores or leaves the fire-        
   arm to be commonly liable. Provides that a first offense is a Class C       
   misdemeanor with a minimum $1,000 fine and a second or subsequent           
   offense is a Class A misdemeanor. Eliminates civil liability pro-           
   visions of the bill.
