   30 ILCS 805/8.23 new                                                        

        Amends the Property Tax Code.  Provides that the  maximum  amount      
   of  the  senior  citizens  homestead  exemption shall be $5,000 in all      
   counties (now $2,500 in counties with 3,000,000  or  more  inhabitants      
   and  $2,000  in all other counties).  Amends the State Mandates Act to      
   exempt these provisions from the reimbursement requirements. Effective      
   immediately.
