   225 ILCS 65/5-23 new                                                        

        Amends the Nursing and Advanced Practice Nursing  Act.   Provides      
   that the Department of Professional Regulation shall require an appli-      
   cant for initial licensure under the Act to undergo a fingerprint--         
   based background check. Effective January 1, 2000.                          
        HOUSE AMENDMENT NO. 1.                                                 
        Provides that an applicant for initial licensure shall submit to       
   a criminal background check (rather than a fingerprint-based criminal       
   background check as provided in the introduced bill). Provides that,        
   if the criminal background check indicates criminal conviction, the         
   applicant shall submit to a fingerprint-based criminal background           
   check.
