1 SENATE RESOLUTION
2 WHEREAS, The Great TV Turn Off is an Elmhurst community
3 program encouraging nearly 4,000 elementary school children
4 and their families to turn off the television set and
5 rediscover one another and their community; and
6 WHEREAS, During the week of February 10-16, 2000, every
7 participating family will receive a Great TV Turn Off Guide
8 outlining a daily schedule of special events in Elmhurst;
9 each participating child will receive a button to wear during
10 this time as an encouraging reminder that they have decided
11 to turn off the television and tune in to their family, their
12 community, and the world; and
13 WHEREAS, The Great TV Turn Off began with a group of
14 Elmhurst parents and community leaders who believed in the
15 benefits of watching less television and is funded through
16 donations and is made possible by the work of volunteers;
17 therefore, be it
18 RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-FIRST GENERAL
19 ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we support the Great
20 TV Turn Off to be held February 10-16, 2000 in Elmhurst; and
21 be it further
22 RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
23 presented to the organizers of the Great TV Turn Off.
