 1                          SENATE RESOLUTION

 2        WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are  saddened
 3    to  learn of the death of Dr. Lloyd W. Lehman, Superintendent
 4    of the Suburban Cook County Regional Office of Education; and

 5        WHEREAS, Dr. Lehman received his  Bachelors  degree  from
 6    Northern Illinois University, his Masters degree in Education
 7    from  DePaul  University, and his Doctorate in Education from
 8    Loyola University; and

 9        WHEREAS, Dr. Lehman began  his  career  in  education  in
10    1960,  teaching in the Chicago Public Schools; he then worked
11    for the Chicago Tribune,  designing  the  "Newspaper  in  the
12    Classroom"  program;  he  then  went  to work for Benjamin C.
13    Willis Educational, Inc. in Chicago; and in  1969  he  became
14    superintendent  of Forest Park Public Schools in Forest Park,
15    Illinois; and

16        WHEREAS, Dr. Lehman went on to serve with the Educational
17    Service Region of Cook County, and  then  with  the  Illinois
18    State  Board of Education; Dr. Lehman became the director for
19    the Regional Service Agency in Skokie, Illinois, in 1974;  he
20    was  then  a  partner  with  Lyman/Lehman  and  Associates in
21    Chicago and worked with Ensure Incorporated in Oak Brook; Dr.
22    Lehman then served with the Illinois State Board of Education
23    in many positions from 1984 to 1992; and

24        WHEREAS, Dr. Lehman was appointed Superintendent  of  the
25    Educational  Service Region of Cook County by the Cook County
26    Board of Commissioners in September of 1992; in  November  of
27    1994  he was elected to the new position of superintendent of
28    the Suburban Cook County Regional Office  of  Education,  and
29    was  re-elected  in  November  of 1998, holding that position
30    until his death; and

31        WHEREAS, Dr. Lehman was a  member  of  the  IARSS,  IASA,

 1    AASA,  and  AAESA  organizations;  he  served on the Advisory
 2    Board for the Adler Planetarium  and  the  Northern  Illinois
 3    University Foundation Board; and

 4        WHEREAS,  Dr.  Lehman was preceded in death in January of
 5    1998 by his wife, Julie Ann Lehman; and

 6        WHEREAS, Dr. Lloyd Lehman is survived  by  his  children,
 7    Laura Ann Lehman, Lloyd W. Lehman III, his grandson, Zachary;
 8    his  brother, John S. Lehman and his wife, Patty; his nieces,
 9    Mary  Patricia  Lehman,  and  Kathleen  Hanneberry  and   her
10    husband,  Kevin;  and  his nephews, Shea Lehman and his wife,
11    Becky, and Brian Lehman and his wife, Jackie;  therefore,  be
12    it

13        RESOLVED,  BY  THE  SENATE  OF  THE  NINETY-FIRST GENERAL
14    ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn, along  with
15    all  that  knew him, the death of Dr. Lloyd Lehman; may there
16    be times of quiet peace in this moment of  need;  and  be  it
17    further

18        RESOLVED,  That  a  suitable  copy  of this resolution be
19    presented to the family of Dr. Lloyd Lehman, along  with  our
20    sincere regards.
