 1                          SENATE RESOLUTION

 2        WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are  saddened
 3    to  learn  of  the death of Ida M. Wicks of East Saint Louis,
 4    Illinois, who recently passed away; and

 5        WHEREAS, Ida Wicks was born in East Saint Louis, Illinois
 6    on July 18, 1928; her parents were John  and  Mattie  Bonner;
 7    she  attended  and  graduated  from  School  District 189 and
 8    received a Bachelors degree and Masters degree from  Southern
 9    Illinois University in Edwardsville; and

10        WHEREAS,   Ida  Wicks  was  a  member  of  the  Mt.  Zion
11    Missionary Baptist Church, where she was baptized at an early
12    age under Reverend B. Haney; she served as Secretary,  Usher,
13    Deaconess,  Teacher,  and  Missionary at the church; she also
14    served as Assistant Dean, Secretary, and Teacher in  the  New
15    Salem  District;  Ida  also  served in the State and National
16    Baptist Congresses; she was  a  member  of  Gamma  Phi  Delta
17    Sorority, Gamma Epsilon Chapter; and

18        WHEREAS,  Ida  Wicks was a teacher in School District 189
19    for many years until her retirement; she was known as someone
20    who loved and cared about people, and she was well known  for
21    her beautiful smile; and

22        WHEREAS,  Ida  Wicks  is  survived by her husband, Calvin
23    Wicks; her daughter, Valentine  Mitchell;  her  sons,  Lonnie
24    Goff,  Roderick  Goff,  and  Robert  Goff;  her stepdaughter,
25    Debrah Wicks; her stepsons, Calvin Wicks, Jr., Charles Wicks,
26    Alan  Wicks,  and  Wade  Wicks;  her  brother,  Dr.   Richard
27    (Carolyn)  Bonner;  her  sisters,  Mattie  Dupree,  Ernestine
28    Cotton,   Susie  (David)  Hawkins,  and  Martha  Austin;  her
29    grandchildren and great grandchildren; as well as many  other
30    relatives and friends; therefore, be it

31        RESOLVED,  BY  THE  SENATE  OF  THE  NINETY-FIRST GENERAL

 1    ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn, along  with
 2    her  family and friends, the death of Ida Wicks; may all that
 3    knew her find peace and comfort in this time of need; and  be
 4    it further

 5        RESOLVED,  That  a  suitable  copy  of this resolution be
 6    presented to the family of Ida Wicks.
