 1                          SENATE RESOLUTION

 2        WHEREAS, The members of the Senate were saddened to learn
 3    of the recent death of John  P.  Stella,  Sr.,  of  Evergreen
 4    Park; and

 5        WHEREAS,  He was born in Chicago on September 1, 1911; he
 6    was a World War II veteran of the U.S. Army and a  member  of
 7    the  Disabled Veterans of America, Tri-centennial Chapter 84;
 8    and

 9        WHEREAS, He served in the military  from  April  of  1941
10    through  November  of  1941  with  Montgomery's Tank Brigade,
11    Company  M  132nd  Infantry;  3  months  later,  after  being
12    discharged, he was recalled back into action at the start  of
13    the American involvement of World War II; during his service,
14    he  qualified  for  a  purple  heart  but  declined the award
15    because he felt fortunate to be alive and healthy due to  the
16    fact  that most of his friends were dead or severely injured;
17    and

18        WHEREAS, He participated in the attack on  Normandy,  the
19    first  wave  that landed was annihilated, Mr. Stella was with
20    the second wave; 200 plus men out of thousands  survived  the
21    attack; Mr. Stella was one of 29 in his battalion that lived;
22    and

23        WHEREAS,  He  was  a  resident  of  Evergreen Park for 42
24    years; he was a retired cabinet  maker,  and  worked  for  30
25    years  for  M. Block and Sons; he worked for Moscickis Realty
26    and then  worked  with  his  daughter  at  the  Village  View
27    newspaper; and

28        WHEREAS,  His  passing  will be deeply felt by his family
29    and friends, especially his wife, Rose M.  Stella;  his  son,
30    John   P.   Stella,  Jr.;  his  daughter,  Annette  Dixon;  6
31    grandchildren; and 2 great-grandchildren; therefore, be it

 1        RESOLVED, BY  THE  SENATE  OF  THE  NINETY-FIRST  GENERAL
 2    ASSEMBLY  OF  THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we note with sorrow
 3    and regret the death of John P. Stella, Sr., and  extend  our
 4    sincere  condolences  to  his  family  and friends; and be it
 5    further

 6        RESOLVED, That a suitable  copy  of  this  resolution  be
 7    presented to his widow, Rose M. Stella.
