1 AN ACT to amend the Illinois Vehicle Code by changing
2 Section 4-102.
3 Be it enacted by the People of the State of Illinois,
4 represented in the General Assembly:
5 Section 5. The Illinois Vehicle Code is amended by
6 changing Section 4-102 as follows:
7 (625 ILCS 5/4-102) (from Ch. 95 1/2, par. 4-102)
8 Sec. 4-102. Offenses relating to motor vehicles and
9 other vehicles - Misdemeanors.
10 (a) It is a violation of this Chapter for:
11 (1) A person, knowingly and without authority to do
12 so, to damage a vehicle or to damage or remove any part
13 of a vehicle;
14 (2) A person, knowingly and without authority to do
15 so, to tamper with a vehicle or go in it, on it, or work
16 or attempt to work any of its parts, or set or attempt to
17 set it in motion;
18 (3) A person knowingly to fail to report a vehicle
19 as unclaimed in accordance with the provisions of Section
20 4-107.
21 (b) Sentence. A person convicted of a violation of this
22 Section is shall be guilty of a Class A misdemeanor. A
23 person convicted of a violation of this Section a second or
24 subsequent time, is shall be guilty of a Class 4 felony.

26 Section 99. Effective date. This Act takes effect upon
27 becoming law.
