1 HOUSE RESOLUTION
2 WHEREAS, The members of the House of Representatives has
3 learned that Roz Ebstein will be retiring from her position
4 as teacher at Solomon Schechter Day Schools in Chicago,
5 Illinois; and
6 WHEREAS, In her 25-year teaching career at Schechter, Roz
7 Ebstein has shared her passion for music with thousands of
8 children; and through her work with the SSDS Children's
9 Choir, she has made the Solomon Schechter Day Schools a
10 household name for every Jewish Chicagoan; and
11 WHEREAS, Roz Ebstein was an assistant professor of early
12 childhood education at the City College of Chicago for 25
13 years; she was persuaded by her friend and former principal
14 of Schechter, Harry Kessler, to teach music at Schechter for
15 a few hours a week which in turn began her love affair with
16 the school; and
17 WHEREAS, Roz Ebstein and her husband, Bernie, have been
18 married for 47 years and have three children, David, Steven
19 and Ellyn, and seven grandchildren; and
20 WHEREAS, It will be very hard to think of a single school
21 event without Mrs. Epstein at the piano, however she will
22 continue to work her magic through her mentoring of a new
23 generation of music teachers; Mrs. Epstein has been more than
24 a teacher at Schechter, she has been a source of song and joy
25 for the entire Jewish community; therefore, be it
26 RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE
27 NINETY-FIRST GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that
28 we congratulate Roz Ebstein on her retirement from Solomon
29 Schechter Day Schools and wish her good fortune in her
30 retirement; and be it further
31 RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
