 1                          HOUSE RESOLUTION

 2        WHEREAS, Homewood-Flossmoor High  School  was  the  first
 3    school  in  the  State  of  Illinois  to  sponsor  their  own
 4    Operation   Snowball,   a   program  to  help  teens  develop
 5    leadership skills as well as cope with the numerous  problems
 6    affecting teens in our society; and

 7        WHEREAS,  Homewood-Flossmor  High School has sponsored an
 8    Operation  Snowball  every  year   since   1981,   positively
 9    influencing the lives of over 2000 students; and

10        WHEREAS,  Homewood-Flossmor  High School has been a model
11    and a source of information for other schools in Illinois, as
12    well as  Indiana,  that  have  created  their  own  Operation
13    Snowball programs; and

14        WHEREAS,   Homewood-Flossmor  High  School  has  provided
15    formal training sessions to both teens and  adults  at  other
16    schools  enabling  them  to  effectively  and efficiently run
17    their own Operation Snowball programs; and

18        WHEREAS, Homewood-Flossmor High School has worked closely
19    with  elementary  school  districts  feeding  into  the  high
20    school, helping them create Operation  Snowflake,  a  program
21    with  similar  goals  to those of Operation Snowball, and has
22    provided  both  adults  and  teens  to  staff  the  Snowflake
23    programs; and

24        WHEREAS, Homewood-Flossmor High School  has  created  the
25    concept  of  a  support staff for Operation Snowball, whereby
26    graduates of the high school return for a four day retreat to
27    provide assistance where necessary and serve as  role  models
28    for the high school participants; and

29        WHEREAS,   Through  the  caring  and  sharing  philosophy
30    reflected in Operation Snowball thousands  of  students  have
31    received  the  information necessary to make positive choices

 1    in their lives and to cope with the numerous problems  facing
 2    adolescents and teens in our society; therefore, be it

 3        RESOLVED,   BY   THE  HOUSE  OF  REPRESENTATIVES  OF  THE
 4    NINETY-FIRST GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS,  that
 5    we  recognize  Homewood-Flossmor High School and the staff of
 6    Operation Snowball for its service and positive influence  on
 7    the  students  in  the  community  and  encourages  Operation
 8    Snowball  to  continue their service to the community; and be
 9    it further

10        RESOLVED, That a suitable  copy  of  this  resolution  be
11    presented   to  the  staff  of  Operation  Snowball  and  the
12    Principal of Homewood-Flossmor High School.
