 1                          HOUSE RESOLUTION

 2        WHEREAS, The Township of New Trier  was  founded  on  the
 3    second  Tuesday of April in the year 1850 at a meeting of its
 4    citizens  who  chose  this  form  of  government  to  provide
 5    services that are local and readily available for residential
 6    communities that value the quality of life for all residents;
 7    and

 8        WHEREAS, The Township of New  Trier  will  celebrate  its
 9    sesquicentennial year at its 151st town meeting to be held on
10    the second Tuesday of April in the year 2000; and

11        WHEREAS, The Township of New Trier has provided a General
12    Assistance  program for all of its 150 years and has been the
13    last lifeline for many people who do not  qualify  for  other
14    forms  of  financial  assistance;  the  Township has provided
15    food, referrals to social services, emergency  financial  aid
16    to  senior citizens and families of all ages, and health care
17    referrals; and

18        WHEREAS, New Trier Township provides monetary  grants  to
19    over  twenty  social  service  agencies which serve residents
20    with programs for  youth,  assistance  for  senior  citizens,
21    vocational    training    and    other   services   for   the
22    developmentally  disabled,  counseling   for   families   and
23    disturbed  youth,  services  for those with HIV, and services
24    for the mentally ill; and

25        WHEREAS, New Trier Township provides funds for a  program
26    to  prevent  the  use  of  drugs  and  alcohol  by youth, and
27    maintains a job counseling service for residents,  and  works
28    with  the  police  departments  of  the  villages  within its
29    borders to provide a Peer Jury Program whereby  young  people
30    who  commit  misdemeanor  crimes may be judged by their peers
31    and required to  do  community  service  to  work  off  their
32    sentences thereby avoiding the juvenile court system; and

 1        WHEREAS,  New  Trier  Township will hold its 151st Annual
 2    Town Meeting on April 11, 2000 and will honor elected  office
 3    holders  past  and  present  and the citizens who devote many
 4    hours as volunteers; therefore, be it

 5        RESOLVED,  BY  THE  HOUSE  OF  REPRESENTATIVES   OF   THE
 6    NINETY-FIRST  GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that
 7    we congratulate the elected officials and all  the  residents
 8    who   have  served  as  volunteers;  they  have  proven  that
 9    residents of New Trier Township continue to  value  the  high
10    ideals of their forebears and have kept the Township a vital,
11    working body since that time; and be it further

12        RESOLVED,  That  a  suitable  copy  of this resolution be
13    presented to the citizens of New Trier  Township  along  with
14    our sincere congratulations for a job well done.
