 1                          HOUSE RESOLUTION

 2        WHEREAS,  The  members   of   the   Illinois   House   of
 3    Representatives  wish to express their sincere condolences to
 4    the family and friends of Clifton Howard, who recently passed
 5    away; and

 6        WHEREAS,  Clifton  "Button  Man"  Howard  was   born   in
 7    Ridgeland,  Mississippi,  on April 23, 1919; his parents were
 8    George and Lillian Howard; and

 9        WHEREAS, Clifton Howard moved to  Chicago  in  his  early
10    twenties,  where rejoined his sister, brother, and mother; he
11    and his brother, Charles, both served in World War II;  after
12    the  war ended, Mr. Howard returned to Chicago and worked for
13    the post office until 1950; and

14        WHEREAS,  Clifton  Howard  then  went  to  work  at   the
15    Wisconsin Steel Mill; in 1955 he married Mae Jones; and

16        WHEREAS,  Clifton  Howard  participated in the 1963 civil
17    rights rally in Washington, D.C., the campaign to elect Mayor
18    Harold Washington, the city council wars, the organization of
19    filling buses for the  million  man  march,  and  many  other
20    activities; and

21        WHEREAS,  Clifton  Howard  last served as a Tahitian Noni
22    salesman under the direction of George Robinson; he was known
23    for his ability to laugh at life and the fact that he  was  a
24    great talker; and

25        WHEREAS,  Clifton  Howard is survived by his loving wife,
26    Mae; his son, Michael Tyler and his wife, Yvette  Tyler;  his
27    sisters, Arlene Brigham, Mozella Colliger, and Roberta Hayes;
28    his  four  great-grandsons;  and  many  other  relatives  and
29    friends; therefore, be it

30        RESOLVED,   BY   THE  HOUSE  OF  REPRESENTATIVES  OF  THE

 1    NINETY-FIRST GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS,  that
 2    we mourn the death of Clifton "Button Man" Howard, along with
 3    all that knew and loved him; and be it further

 4        RESOLVED,  That  a  suitable  copy  of this resolution be
 5    presented to the family of Clifton Howard.
