 1                          HOUSE RESOLUTION

 2        WHEREAS,  The  members   of   the   Illinois   House   of
 3    Representatives  are pleased to honor milestones in the lives
 4    of citizens of the State of Illinois; and

 5        WHEREAS, Doris Whitten of Salem, Illinois has been  named
 6    the  recipient  of the Illinois Woman of Achievement Award by
 7    the Lieutenant Governor's Office in  conjunction  with  March
 8    being "Women's History Month"; and

 9        WHEREAS,  Doris  Whitten  was nominated for this award by
10    Salem Mayor Leonard E. Ferguson; and

11        WHEREAS, Doris Whitten is the author of "The Secrets of a
12    Happy Homemaker"; she is a public speaker and has a career in
13    public relations and marketing; Doris Whitten has served as a
14    member  of  the  Salem  Historical  Commission,  the   Police
15    Department    Citizens   Council,   the   City   and   County
16    Sesquicentennial  and  Bicentennial  Commissions,  the  Salem
17    Woman's  Club,   the   South   Central   Community   Concerts
18    Association,  and the Salem Chamber of Commerce; and

19        WHEREAS,  Doris Whitten has been a soloist with the Salem
20    Little Theater Group and was co-chairman of the Little  Egypt
21    Parade;  she  served  as  president  of the Jr. High and High
22    School Band Parents for seven years and was chairman  of  the
23    50th  Anniversary  of  the GI Bill of Rights Celebration; she
24    organized the Salem Senior Citizens Club,  the  People  Alone
25    Club, the Newcomers Club, and the Women in Need Club; and

26        WHEREAS,  Doris  Whitten  has  received  numerous awards,
27    including the Most Outstanding Woman  in  Salem,  the  Modern
28    Woodmen    Insurance    Outstanding    Citizen   Award,   the
29    International Who's Who in Community Service Award, the Salem
30    Citizen  of  the  Month,  the  1998   Chamber   of   Commerce
31    Outstanding Community Service Award, and was nominated to the

 1    President's Volunteer Action Award; she was recently notified
 2    that  her  name  has  been place on the "Wall of Fame" in the
 3    National Women's Hall of Fame in Seneca, New York; therefore,
 4    be it

 5        RESOLVED,  BY  THE  HOUSE  OF  REPRESENTATIVES   OF   THE
 6    NINETY-FIRST  GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that
 7    we congratulate Doris Whitten on receiving the Illinois Woman
 8    of Achievement Award; and be it further

 9        RESOLVED, That a suitable  copy  of  this  resolution  be
10    presented to Doris Whitten.
