 1                          HOUSE RESOLUTION

 2        WHEREAS,  The  members   of   the   Illinois   House   of
 3    Representatives  are pleased to honor milestones in the lives
 4    of citizens of the State of Illinois; and

 5        WHEREAS, It has come to the attention of this  Body  that
 6    South  Chicago Heights Fire Chief Angelo Petrarca will retire
 7    on January 31, 2000; and

 8        WHEREAS, Angelo Petrarca joined the South Chicago Heights
 9    Fire Department in June of 1960; he became  a  Lieutenant  in
10    May of 1971, was appointed the Assistant Fire Chief in May of
11    1973,  and  on  May  1,  1974  became the Fire Chief of South
12    Chicago Heights; and

13        WHEREAS, Fire Chief Angelo Petrarca has been a member  of
14    the International Fire Chief Association since 1974, a member
15    of  the  Illinois Fire Chief Association since 1984, a member
16    of the International Association of Arson Investigators since
17    1992, the chairperson  of  the  Emergency  Telephone  Systems
18    Board  E-9-1-1 (ETSB) since 1994,  a member of NENA (National
19    Emergency   Number   Association)   since   1994,   and   the
20    Chairperson/President of the Firemen Pension Fund since 1974;
21    and

22        WHEREAS, Fire Chief Angelo Petrarca is a  member  of  the
23    South  Chicago Heights Y2K readiness committee; he also was a
24    past President of the WILCO Fire Chiefs  Association  in  the
25    4th district, comprised of 18 fire departments; while serving
26    as  President  he was the chairperson and author of the MABAS
27    (Mutual Aid Box Alarm System), which laid out guidelines  for
28    a  planned  response  of  all 18 departments during emergency
29    disaster situations when additional  resources  were  needed;
30    and

31        WHEREAS,  Fire  Chief  Angelo Petrarca will be remembered

 1    for improving the response time of  the  department  from  an
 2    average  of 6 to 7 minutes to the current 2 minutes, from the
 3    time of the call to the actual arrival of  EMS  personnel  on
 4    site; and

 5        WHEREAS,  Fire  Chief  Angelo Petrarca is to be commended
 6    for his many years of dedication and service to the people of
 7    South Chicago Heights; therefore, be it

 8        RESOLVED,  BY  THE  HOUSE  OF  REPRESENTATIVES   OF   THE
 9    NINETY-FIRST  GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that
10    we say thank you to Fire Chief Angelo Petrarca for a job well
11    done; we wish him nothing but the best as he looks  into  the
12    future; and be it further

13        RESOLVED,  That  a  suitable  copy  of this resolution be
14    presented to Fire  Chief  Angelo  Petrarca,  along  with  our
15    sincere regards.
