1 HOUSE RESOLUTION
2 WHEREAS, The State of Illinois is experiencing the lowest
3 unemployment in over two decades with many sectors of the
4 Illinois economy experiencing severe labor shortages; and
5 WHEREAS, The State of Illinois is home to some of the
6 nation's top businesses and business sectors including:
7 manufacturing, technology, agri-business, retail, hospitality
8 and visitor industry, biotechnology, and health care; and
9 WHEREAS, Many sectors of Illinois' economy are
10 increasingly relying upon new American immigrants to meet the
11 challenges of severe labor shortages; and
12 WHEREAS, The State of Illinois is home to outstanding
13 post-secondary institutions experienced in the education of
14 adults of all ages, races, ethnicities, and walks-of-life;
15 and
16 WHEREAS, The Illinois economy may suffer from severe
17 labor shortages as employers, business, and industry seek a
18 qualified workforce; therefore, be it
19 RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE
20 NINETY-FIRST GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that
21 we respectfully request that the Board of Higher Education,
22 the Illinois Community College Board, and the State Board of
23 Education work together to examine the issue of the most
24 appropriate venue and agenda for adult education in the State
25 of Illinois; and be it further
26 RESOLVED, That they report their analysis and plan for
27 adult education in the State of Illinois to the members of
28 the General Assembly no later that October 15, 1999; and be
29 it further
30 RESOLVED, That suitable copies of this resolution be

1 forwarded to the Chairmen of the Board of Higher Education,
2 the Illinois Community College Board, and the State Board of
3 Education.
