1 HOUSE RESOLUTION
2 WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of
3 Representatives wish to congratulate Mandy Zbinden, a senior
4 at Triad High School in St. Jacob, Illinois, on being named
5 to the John Philip Sousa National Honors Band; and
6 WHEREAS, The John Philip Sousa National Honors Band is
7 comprised of top performing students from around the country,
8 selected for being top performers in local, district, and
9 state level music programs; the students will congregate in
10 Washington, D.C. in May to begin practicing for their concert
11 to be held on May 8; and
12 WHEREAS, Mandy has played the french horn for 6 years;
13 she began her musical career on the piano; Mandy has been
14 selected for the Truman State University Honor Band, the
15 SIU-E Bi-State Honor Band, and the IMEA All-District Band;
16 Mandy auditioned with the IMEA All-State Band during her
17 eligible years; and
18 WHEREAS, Mandy has scored top ratings at the IHSA State
19 Solo/Ensemble Contest; she works privately with Barb Hunter
20 at SIU-E; Mandy was a cast member in the school production of
21 South Pacific and serves as a member of the journalism staff;
22 in 1997 she was selected as Drum Major for the THS Band, due
23 to her leadership ability; and
24 WHEREAS, Upon graduation she plans to pursue a music
25 career in a university music program; therefore, be it
26 RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE
27 NINETY-FIRST GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that
28 we congratulate Mandy Zbinden on being selected to the John
29 Philip Sousa National Honors Band; and be it further
30 RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
31 presented to Mandy Zbinden, along with our sincere regards.
